Arts Council Funding

I am pleased to announce that I have been awarded Arts Council funding towards 3 new video works which I will be making over the coming months! 

Inspired by the language of cinema these new works will using appropriated film special effect techniques (such as matte painting, model making, Foley sound effects and cloud tanks) to explore combining the handmade and the digital within contemporary image making and to examine the interplay between reality and illusion. 


 I will keep updating my blog with images/more information about these new works as they progress

'Treacle' video installation at Tyneside cinema (until 30th March)

'Treacle', 2012, 6min loop, video projection, stereo sound.

A closing event for 'Treacle' will take place at Tyneside cinema on 30th March, 6-9pm. all welcome for drinks and a last chance to this work.  I will also be giving a short  presentation in the Digital Lounge relating to my practice and Foley sound effects from 7.30pm.

I have a new video work, 'Treacle', currently on show at Tyneside cinema, Newcastle, as part of their Pixel Palace exhibition series:

..."Treacle is a new installation by Rachel Lancaster. Inspired by the language of cinema, Lancaster’s work explores the interplay between reality and illusion. Using ordinary household items to create Foley sound effects and moving image, Treacle playfully constructs a sense of disorientation and mystery in the central stairwell at Tyneside Cinema."

The video is installed in the stairwell of the cinema and can be viewed anytime during the cinema opening hours, until Thursday 29th March.
