Brain Eaters

4 July 2015

Artists Katie Goodwin and Rachel Lancaster met during a residency at Tyneside Cinema in 2011. This chance encounter has since resulted in them collaborating on this new exhibition and on a performance which uses everyday household objects to create new foley sound effects for B-grade horror movies from the 50s and 60s.

Utilising the unused underwater footage shot from Small Wonders, the Brain Eaters concept stems from conversations with Terence Preston about the fresh water living amoebae that can get up your nose and eat your brain (in very rare cases). It is a sensationalist tongue-in-cheek take on the usual newsroom hysteria to diseases pumped out to the masses.

Brain Eaters was funded by a Small Arts Award from the Wellcome Trust.
